Walling Muslim cemetery fails to assure Hindus in Deganga
Will Hindus there have to boycott coming Durga Puja too?
Will Hindus in Deganga, hotpot and also mainstay of anti-Hindu terror activities, become safe finally? This single yet highly momentous question, at the moment, is haunting the area and its environs, located in P.S. Deganga, Dist. 24 paraganas (North), Indian state of Bengal, area that witnessed grievous anti-Hindu assaults, under aegis of Islamic fundamentalists, last year. The differences over the disputed land (reported in HS blog at times already) led to Islamic outrage and finally heinous assaults on Hindus. Local administration has walled the Muslim cemetery in hope of betterment but Hindu woes, owing to newer developments, are far from over.
Without doubt, there was a need to lessen Hindu-Muslim differences in the neighborhood, increasing ever more. And walling of the Muslim burial ground has been done to denote administration’s wisest intention to call all disturbances a halt.
To bring this to the final point, 2 members of each of Chattal Palli Samiti (namely Paritosh Ghosh and Babul De) and KabarsthanCommittee (Rahim Maulana and akir Mallik) were called to the local SDO office on 23/07/11. In the meeting all concerned dignitaries like SDO, SDPO, BDO were present. Among others present there included local Officer-in-Charge (O.C.) and panchayat president. The meeting was presided by both SDO, Prabal Kumar Maity and SDPO, Mehboob Akhtar, and it was annunciated there that the administration had already taken the decision to wall the aforementioned Kabarsthan (cemetery) leaving 16 ft. way (bone of contention) for public usage.
Representatives of each group were informed on 25/07/11 that construction of wall would take place on 26/07/11 from 6 am.
Nevertheless, members of Kabarsthan Committee present there raised objections stating their legitimate demands of additional land. As per them, since there is a need to demarcate between cemetery and the adjoining land, owned by Asutosh Ghosh, cemetery’s total area has to be extended, indicating (wordlessly) that 16 ft. way destined for public usage may be wiped out by the next virulent Muslim campaigns. According to members,Kabarsthan Committee owns 5 ft. land, at least, in the adjoining land.
The administration, at this time, proved to be steadfast and declared formally any land worth 5 or 6 ft. would be added to the existing 16 ft. path (meant for public use) only. Finding no other option Muslims members gave in.
Hindus’ demand to have a part of land to hold fairs occurring at every year’s Durga Puja still continues. It is to be noted, fencing around the cemetery engulfs the land which Hindus have been using for decades to hold Puja fairs. To deal with Hindu demands, local administration announced earlier that it would purchase the adjacent land, under possession of Asutosh Ghosh.
Meanwhile, Asutosh Ghosh has sent his consent letter to the administration stating his willingness to sell off the entire land worth 9 and a-half bigha but not any particular portion. In accordance with the administration, this process is in full swing. It has also been learnt that DM, 24 Paraganas (North) has already asked PWD to prepare its land by the side of thoroughfare for the upcoming Puja fair.
On the fateful day (26/07/11) no less than 300 laborers were employed, under the guidance of a huge police force, led by O.C. s of 8 adjoining police stations. The wall was completed on a single day barring a small portion.
But the episode doesn’t end here thanks to fast changing Muslim attitudes. A chunk of them have started to state that the said 5 ft. of land can’t be sacrificed ever and this tract belongs to them exclusively.
With this end in view, almost 200 Muslims went to P.S. Deganga, on 25/07/11 in evening, to stage this demand of them to the administration. Nonetheless, they were not allowed to enter the police station and this has fuelled their anger.
Hindus are terming this as indication of a more ominous development (still to come) and are in fear that the Islamic outrage of last year may befall in this year too. Will friend-turned-foe-turned-friend administration act positively this year?
Or whether Hindus will have to boycott coming Durga Puja like the preceding one?

Muslim criminals strike once again in Deganga
Deganga in the Indian state of West Bengal is becoming a site of turmoil with the passing of each day. It is evident that the same fire is engulfing rest of the state fast and unless Deganga is restrained now, Bengal would succumb to the rising Islamic fundamentalism faster than it is comprehended.
The fresh turmoil has taken place in the village BasonaBenapur, P.S. Deganga, close to Noornagar Village Pachayat, where no less than 85 Hindu households of the locality were persecuted in the night of 17 April 2011. Hindu youths of the families were simply encircled and battered, women were molested. Definitely the word molestation would get ashamed if it goes through the harrowing experiences of Hindu women here.
What led to the turmoil? It started regarding a mere incident of digging field and BasonaBenapur PalashPriya Sangha, club dominated by Hindus in particular, has its struggle with Muslims in the vicinity for long. Even if these have being going on for years, recent India-Pakistan match and club members’ rejoicing for India’s victory led to a new problem. Muslims from adjoining villages rushed in and beat up the members.
Contractor of the activity (digging field) is Mohammed Yunus. He, as part of a conspiracy, incited 60-70 Muslim youths, equipped with deadly weapons, and attacked BasonaBenapur PalashPriya Sangha Club. Along with rabble-rousing slogans, Muslim youths lost no time to wreck the entire club. Nassir Hossain (son of Motlubar Rehman) destructed the adjoining house, destructed shop of Narayan Mondal, molested his wife and snatched her gold jewelries worth Rs. 5,000.
One criminal named Mohammed Laltu attacked Surajit Mondal, member of the said club, grievously and Surajit had to be admitted to the local BiswaNathpur Hospital; he also underwent 8 stitches at the same instant. Laltu was found to state, at the time of attacking, Hindus would not be spared and they would either be evicted or massacred before long. Mohammed Sahin, (son of Mohammed Khokon Goldar), molested and assailed Mrs. Minati Mondal.
Others were also involved in such inglorious activities. Blouses of women were torn, earrings were snatched and newly married women and teenage girls were threatened that they would be raped at any time. Even infants were also not spared. A few Muslim thugs said that infants must be put to death to make Hindus powerless. The body language of Islamic assailants was enough to make Hindus terrified.
Club members, being helpless and disclaimed by any political party, had to opt for assistance of the local administration. But they were harassed by the police personnel too and police went to the spot at least after 1 hour. Hindus lodged a complaint (FIR no.: 209/dtd. 17/04/2011) against the Islamic fanatics.
Police arrested a few Muslims promptly. Among them one has already been let free and 4 others have been delivered to the court of justice. As per Hindu villagers, the main culprits are yet to be brought under the book. They have started to think whether their greatest crime is to take birth as Hindu in India.

Islamists planning to initiate new reign of terror in Deganga
There is a well-known notion contrived and executed brilliantly by the Nazis once, “blame the dog before you shoot”, and followed by many others in the following decades. But the Muslim hardliners across the globe have surpassed all these and have implanted the word malign too. The precise meaning of the word is to speak unfavorably about and everywhere Islamic zealots malign opponents to break their moral fiber up.
Deganga, town with a police station and a community development block in Barasat subdivision of North 24 Parganas district in the Indian state of West Bengal, known more for the notorious carnage of Hindus in last September, also perceives the same. And it has become certain by now that the foremost aim of the recent Islamic religious convention held in Deganga was to malign Hindus, their faith and thus to destruct their moral fiber. The Islamic religious convention (taking place in the Deganga Bazaar area) continued between 05 April 2011 to 08 April, 2011 but devoid of any official permission of using microphone.
On last Friday (08 April, 2011) the event was staged with vitriolic criticisms of Hinduism (including the pantheon, perennial principles and practices) by Islamic religious teachers. They were also found to state that sanctified Hindu temples belong to Muslims only as these were founded on basic structures of ancient mosques and the time has come to regain these with full might. The local Muslims, majority of which were participants in the atrocities on Hindus, were also perceived to support the same theory. All these infuriated Hindus a lot, as usual.
As a mark of protest against all these a great number of Hindus blocked Taki Road before P.S. Deganga for 3 hrs. on 09.04.11. The furious protest of Hindus balled over the local administration too and as per latest info, police has given written statement that it would ask the Muslim committee to appear and take appropriate measures to mitigate the rising tension in the neighborhood.
However, Hindus have started to smell a rat and for people like Atanu Majhi, Sukdeb Barman, Bappa Mondal, Swapna Karmakar Deganga is moving towards a fresh turmoil.

Withdrawal of security forces makes Hindus panicked in Deganga
Hindus apprehend worst
One of the crucial developments in the region of Deganga has been the withdrawal of security forces on last Friday and certainly from the disputed site. In accordance with sources, this has led to panic and confusion in the vicinity even if some people are yet to know all these. One of these is Mr. Prashanta Pal, strong warrior in this saga and also a good source. Only on this day he became familiar with the same and within the next 5 minutes he confirmed that my info was perfect.
A meeting between Tapan Kr. Ghosh and his companions with Amitava Nandi (influential member of CPM State Committee) took place today as well. As per Mr. Nandi , the file (containing the project decided by the government to stop all controversies) has already been approved by the Finance Department of the WB Government and been sent to DM North 24 Paraganas, Mr. Pravin Kumar.
However, confusions do prevail. Owing to the declaration of upcoming assembly election in the state of West Bengal, code of conduct is being carried out and as a result, authorization of Chief Electoral Officer (in this context) is essential. If the concerned CEO declines at this time, the entire issue would be jeopardized.
Mr. Ghosh also spoke of the withdrawal of security forces from the aforementioned disputed site. Mr. Nandi talked to DM North 24 Paraganas over phone and said necessary steps would be adopted to assure Hindus living in this area.

Deganga 2010 : Islamists' Gift to Democratic India
The destruction created by the Islamist nexus of West Bengal was far more profound than what has been seen in the last sixty years in the state. The obvious intention was to intimidate the Hindu population to evacuate the area without physically killing a single Hindu. Millions of Dollars of Hindu owned properties were destroyed, temples were desecrated, and just as in the case of Kashmir, Hindus were asked to leave the 'land of TituMir'
Noted scoial activist Debajyoti Roy toured the Deganga area in September of 2010. We are providing this translation for readers to understand the long range damage to the Hindu psyche that Deganga 2010 may create.
Debajyoti Roy
The noted judge, Honorable Gopaldas Khosla, in his book 'Stern Reckoning', mentioned about a leaflet distributed by Muslim League in 1946. The leaflet stated: “Muslims must remember that it was only a Ramadan month when Quran was written. It was only a Ramadan month when Khudah permitted us to perform jihad. The battle of Badar which the great prophet fought along with only 313 Muslims was won in the month of Ramadan. It was also in the month of Ramadan holy great prophet established heaven in Mecca after winning the city with 10,000 Muslims. He also founded Muslim commonwealth. It would be a good luck for Muslim League that they have the opportunity to start the fighting in such a holy month.”
In 2010, from 26th to 28th of Ramadan month (September 6th to September 8th) a terrible torture was inflicted on Hindus living in the areas like Deganga Bazar, Kartikpur Bazar, Karmakarpara, Viswanathpur, Changdona, Aminpur, Khejuridanga and Beliaghata in the east of Barasat. 70 percent of these Hindus are refugees coming from the erstwhile East Bengal. Almost all inhabitants from Chattalpalli came from Chattogram.
For the last forty years there was a Durgapuja going on. On the road towards this locality from the bus road, the Durga temple exists beside a plot of size around 2.75 acres. Left half of this plot is used as a cemetery by Muslims of the area. According to them, WAKF Board gave them this permission. Actually this plot was owned by Rani Rasmani once. Then government took over it. There is a sixty feet wide road on the right side of this plot. The residents of Chattalpalli area use this road and the same road is used by devotees to attend Durga puja in the temple.
The residents for Chattalpalli asked for very little. They wanted to continue using the road on the disputed land and hold usual Durgapuja outside this plot peacefully. But Muslims of that area did not want that. We went to the attacked areas between Beliaghata and Deganga bazar during 15th to 26th September of this year. After we went to Chattalpalli, we came to know that almost all local Muslims wanted to block the residents of Chattalpalli from accessing the plot by putting a wall around the plot. As a result they could stop the ‘unforgivable sins of idol-worshiping’ and encourage the Hindu Bengalis to leave their home.
On September 6th (26th Ramadan) morning, nearly 1,000 Muslims started digging the perimeters of the disputed plot so that they can construct the wall. The digging work was completed within a short time. When Hindus protested Muslims started verbally abusing and then began to assault Amal Kar, a Hindu resident. Suddenly, Haji Nurul Islam, Member of Parliament of Basirhat came to the place along with Ratna Roychowdhury, local leader of Trinamul Congress. Both sides complained to them and Haji Saheb took some people to talk to the police officer in charge of Deganga plice Station. After speaking to the officer behind a closed door he went to Jame mosque which happens to be near the disputed land. There he installed a microphone on the roof of the mosque after talking to the Imam and his associates.
It is necessary to mention that Haji Nurul Islam promised to hand over the disputed land to the Muslims and install a mike on top of the mosque if he would win the last election. It is also necessary to mention that Kolkata High Court is yet to declare a verdict on the disputed land and they have specifically ordered against installing the microphone on the mosque.
It is not clear where Nurul Islam went after he left the mosque. A large number of local residents complained that he along with Ratna stayed inside the local police station till 9 PM. Immediately after the Muslim festival of Iftar ended, a crowd of nearly 2,000 Muslim activists carrying pistols, large knives, gasoline, and acid attacked unarmed Hindus in Deganga and nearby areas. The political color of Hindus did not play a role here. The sweet shop of CPIM supporter Kapurias were attacked but so were the shop of dedicated TMC supporter Kanailal Gupta or the politically neutral Gopal Mandal. Countless calls were made to local police station immediately after the attack began, but none picked up.
We spent a long time in the localities of Deganga Market, Kartikpur Market, Viswanathpur, Khejuridanga village and Beliaghata. We talked to nearly 100 people for two days. Among them were Khokan Saha and 5 other persons from Chattalpalli, Uttam Saha from Deganga, Gopal Mandal, Arun Sadhukhan, Kanailal Gupta, Gopal Kapuria and his elder son, Sajalkrishna Das, Kajal Das and many more. We talked to Bimal Ghosh and Sarojit Das among 15-20 men and women in Kartikpur Market.
The shop that Bimalbabu owned is damaged severely. But the shop owned by a Muslim who is renting the place did not suffer any damage. A Muslim owned Mahima Vastralaya. His shop did not suffer any damage. Rapid Action Force was deployed on 7th September, 2010. The rampaging Islamists henchmen did not care about their presence and burned four cars costing around 1 crore (around 250,000 US $). Burned bodies of the cars were dumped beside the local police station in Deganga. Many buses and trucks were burnt down. The Kali murthi (icon) inside the main temple in Kartikpur was broken and the Muslim religious psychopaths pissed on them.
Six Hindu houses are completely burnt down in Khejuridanga, 1 km from here. The owners were
After seeing this, ten members of Bakshi family ran a kilometer and sought shelter from the Muslim locality. After getting refused, they went to nearby Daspara and a Hindu family sheltered them. By then the home of Bakshis and six houses belonging to Ghoshs were being burnt. The Muslim fanatics burnt down the house of a Muslim named Ahad Ali in confusion. His wife Anwara Begam told us. Their home is literally small. The brick house beside this small house belong to her in-laws and nobody set fire to that house. There must be some motive in burning down Ahad Ali's small house. Except this incident, not a single Muslim property was damaged in the areas between Deganga and Beliaghata. Among the Hindus who suffered damage were supporters of all political parties.
After Kartikpur, we went to Beliaghata. We started from this place on September 26th. 2010. Bachhu Kramakakr's house and houses of about 15 members of the Hindu- Dhali community were burnt down. Hindu residents were beaten. Each house in this locality was looted. The gates of each of the houses were broken after charging bombs. So far it appears that Bachhu Karmakar suffered biggest loss in terms of money. He is the biggest goldsmith in this area. One eye-witness told us that RAF guards shot a Muslim youth named Sahabuddin when he tried to throw stone towards them. But a rumor was spread that Bachhu Karmakar killed him using his licensed gun.
Bachhubabu's shop was looted and his house was burnt down for this baseless alleged crime. Only the skeleton of the house remained. Luckily Bachchubabu escaped with his family. He was missing for days. We managed to meet his wife on 26th of September after much effort. She said, “We never had a gun in our house. We do not have a gun even today. The rumor was spread to loot our shop and house.”
75 year old Viswanath Ghosh was hurt. After entering his house the Islamist rioters hit his mouth. He lost his teeth. After that one started to beat his son Jagadish. Others started to beat the ladies after taking the jewelries from ladies. Each room in the house was burnt down and damage can be estimated to around Rs. 5 lakh ($ 135,000 US).
We could not visit most houses on the 15th September because of lack of time. But we could visit Tapan Ghosh's house and Narayan Ghosh's house. The Muslim looters burnt down Narayan Ghosh's car. All henchmen are local. Tarapada Ghosh, head of Panchayat dominated by TMC and a teacher by profession also lived here. After many people requested us, we spoke to him. He tried to put an insincere and failed defense of Haji Nurul Islam. He agreed that the events of those three days were a planned attack on Hindus by Muslims. We asked him that as a supporter of TMC would you hold CPM responsible? He answered, “Why was the administration inactive for last three days? From that aspect we hold left front government responsible.” Next day, another member of Panchayat Mrs. Kavita Vaidya told us by telephone that the Muslim activists tried to burn her family after putting kerosene on them. They had to kneel down and beg for their lives to escape the ordeal.
We went to all the damaged houses in Dhali Para on 26th September, 2010. Mainly we wanted to learn the truth about two news provided by a reporter Sukumar Mitra of Dainik Statesman. The first news stated that Hindu ladies from Dhali para were given shelter by Muslim ladies from the nearby locality. The news is not entirely untrue. The brother of a local leader, who was unwilling to mention his name, told us that it was part of the cruel plan. It was organized so that empty houses could be looted and burned down without any difficulty and casualty. It also served as an excuse to prove that local Muslims did not hate Hindus. The fact that Muslism in Beliaghata collected and donated Rs. 3 lakhs (US $ 6,000) to the Hindus who suffered loss is true as well. But there are deeper motives in it. The total loss in Beliaghata is estimated to be a few crores (1crore = 250,000) Spending only Rs. 3 lakhs was only an effort to silence the mouth of aggrieved Hindus as much as possible. Those who understood it did not take the gift of pity. One of them is Viswanath Ghosh. Among those who took the money was Sri Paritosh Ghosh.
We found that members of all Durga puja committees under Deganga thana got (police station) together to attend a meeting in front of the temple in Chattalpalli. While returning we heard that they will protest this heinous riot by not arranging Durga puja this year. Few days back Muslims went to local police station and threatened the officer in charge by saying that if the dug out part of the disputed plot is not opened within 18 hours, the consequence will not be pleasant. After that a police camp was organized in front of Chattalpalli Durga temple.
The residents told us that Maulana Siddikullah Saheb from Jamiyat-Ulema-A-Hind, a right wing Islamist organization, organized a ‘peace rally’ using men full of 8/10 trucks on September 22nd. The main slogan was” 'The sanctity of Deganga cemetery should be preserved'. In addition to that, 'Bachchu Karmakar should be arrested', 'Family of Sahabuddin should receive 5 lakh (500,000) rupees = 10,000 US $). 'The criminals should be punished' etc were among other slogans. Among the guests they said were present were advocates of Dalit-Muslim unity like Santosh Rana, Ravindra Debnath, Sukriti Ranjan Biswas and Sukumar Biswas. But nobody could validate for us us whether they were present there or not. Because everyone else were hidden inside the vehicles.
Immediately after Id, Haji Nurul Islam commented to a reporter from Tehelka magazine: “I have information that Yakub and Nitai from CPM were the main perpetrators of this robbery”. We could not trace even a bit of a truth in it. Islam also claimed that many Hindus who suffered loss celebrated Id with him that day. We failed to verify that claim. But we came to know that TMC local leader Arup Biswas accompanied 8-10 TMC supporters who went to Islam’s house to eat Sirni (special food item of Id). None of these supporters are among those who suffered loss.
We used discretion in investigating whether any political outfit was directly or indirectly involved in the heinous events of those three cursed days. We have talked to the supporters of Congress, BJP and TMC but they are not identifying any political outfit as the main culprit. Not even CPM is accused. But we could neither find any leader or supporter of CPM nor we saw any open CPM office.
If anyone went to spot to investigate neutrally, he/she would realize that behind the events of those three days there was no Hindu.
Among the victims who went to local police station were Sarbasri Sujit Mandal, Harendranath Baksi, Sujit Kumar Ghosh, Viswanath Ghosh, Jagadish Chandra Ghosh, Lakshmikanta Ghosh, Subrata Kumar Choudhury, Sukumar De and Bikash Chandra Ghosh. Local residents handed us a list that contained the names of sixty victims from Beliaghata.
As per the latest news, Abhilash Ghosh from Khejuridanga submitted a written complaint that contained a list of fifty nine Muslim anti-social elements in Deganga police station.

Hindu Legal Case in Deganga --- THE F.I.R.
Abhilash Ghosh, a Resident of Deganga Block and a victim of the September 2010 Attacks by Islamists that Affected Tens of Thousands of Hindus in the Area, Filed the following First Information Report, Known in India as the F.I.R. at the Local Deganga Police Station.
To,
Deganga Police Station,
Deganga,
North 24 Parganas,
(West Bengal, India)
Dear Sir,
I, Avilash Ghosh, son of Shri Badal Ghosh, am a permanent resident of village - Khejur Danga Paschim Para (Chandni market), PO – Ramnathpur, PS – Deganga and have been staying at the aforementioned address and place from birth.
Let it be noted that on 6th September, 2010, Monday, an aggressive Muslim populace residing in the stretch from Beleghata to Deganga have engaged in looting and devastation of property, temple destruction and desecration of Deities under the leadership of Member of Parliament from Bashirhat constituency, Mr.Haji Nurul Islam, and inspired by the above incident on Tuesday morning approximately at 9:30 AM, members of the Muslim community from Biswanathpur, Ramnathpur, Khejurdanga, Dohariya and Gambhirgachi villages came to our home and openly threatened us in abusive language. And then they also resorted to destruction of homes in our locality. They were carrying sticks, sharpened weapons or bombs. After reporting the entire incident in the Deganga police station, the police came but they themselves were attacked by the stone pelting and brick bats from the Muslim mob, following which the police force fled the place fearing for their lives while leaving us at the mercy of the marauding mob. We spent the entire day in this terrorizing situation.
After that on 8th September, 2010, Wednesday morning at approximately 10:00 AM, suddenly one resident of Biswanathpur village, Mr. Mockluckar Rahman Baidya, son of Mr. Habibur Rahman Baidya, came in front of our house and spoke instructions to various people on his cell phone “All of you halt your current work and immediately come to Chandni market. We have to loot the homes of the Hindus and put them on fire. Feel free to fulfill your lecherous desires (sexual innuendo towards Hindu women)”. Feeling threatened after hearing this, I immediately summoned the women and other members of family, sent them to Hindu populated areas, following which I sat in the veranda of our home and kept listening to Mocklucker. In the meantime a police car was approaching from the direction of Kartickpur announcing to the residents not to respond to rumours and maintain peace. After seeing the police car coming, Mocklucker Rahman called one Soharab Ali of Chandni market and told him, “Police car is coming, make sure that those son-of-whores cannot bring the car beyond Salimpukur. Beat them up, pile them in the car and put it on fire. I am leaving now but make sure my orders are strictly followed”
After saying this, the above person took his motor bike and went inside the alleys of our locality. Soon a mob of hundreds gathered with arms and weapons, stopped the car near Salimpukur and started to beat up the police. Fearing for their lives, the police got off their vehicle and started fleeing towards Kartikpur. Then the gang of attackers targeted the vehicle, destroyed it and threw the same into Salim’s pond (Salimpukur). As soon as the police fled the area, Mocklucker came back near our home and assembled the mob by inciting them to loot the properties belonging to the Hindus, put them on fire and torture them. Seeing this and trying to save my life, I hid myself into the backwoods of bamboo shrubbery and started to witness the following rampage of my home from there; lead by Mocklucker Rahman, a mob of about a hundred entered my house and started to indiscriminately pillage our property, while the rest of the remaining gang of about three hundred either stood guard in the street or kept advancing forward. Everyone was armed by either sticks or iron rods or sharp weapons and bags filled with bombs.
Let it be noted that, these people entered our residential house in broad daylight, fully armed with weapons, plundered it and set it on fire. In addition to this, they directly targeted the women of Hindu community with lascivious and dire consequences which compelled us to abandon our residences in order to save the honour of our women. From the aforementioned culprits, those numbered sequence from 1 to 4 gave leadership to the entire carnage. Persons named in sequence numbered 2 and 3 stole two television sets and once CD player, offender number 4 appropriated one ceiling fan. Offender numbered 5 pillaged necessary household items into a sack and took the same on his head. Everyone else broke into our storage cabinet (almirah) and plundered as many remaining items as they could. Finally, offender number 60, Arjina Bibi under the instructions of offender number 59, brought a drum of kerosene oil to put fire in my house. Offenders numbered 6 and 7 poured that kerosene oil into my home and put it on fire. In the same manner that they plundered and torched my residence, four other houses were looted and put on fire. Of the items pillaged from my home, important ones include Rs 40,000 cash and approximately 60 grams (6 bhori) gold from storage cabinet.
Hence, it is my humble prayer to you that my father was attacked and driven out of his ancestral property in Bangladesh by the fanatic Muslim community because he was unable to safeguard his honour and dignity as well as the chastity of his women. I have known that he was forced to migrate with a heavy heart because he failed to get justice from his place of birth. Again today I have witnessed that under the leadership of some criminal members of the Muslim community, our Muslim neighbours whom we have personally known for long, shamelessly and in broad daylight, plundered our homes and debased our womenfolk. Subsequently, they poured kerosene oil, put it on fire and completely destroyed the same while the police being apprised of the ensuing carnage, came and witnessed the whole incident as a meek spectator some hundred yards from the site. Thereafter, the aforementioned marauders walked away freely and without fear in front of the police carrying loads of pillage property from our homes. I have witnessed the entire incident with my own eyes. After the mobs departed from the area, I approached the police standing in front of our house and asked them even after watching such devastation, why did not they even once attempt to prevent the carnage? To this they replied that their hands are tied and they are under strict order from superiors not to even raise their baton. After hearing this, I could not believe my own ears. Finally, to redress our grievances and in expectation of justice, I pray before the same police that they render strict and exemplary punishment to the culprits by admitting this F.I.R.
Let it be noted that I was rendered homeless by this terrorizing situation following which I returned to my destroyed home, cleared the ruins and barely managed to make it livable again; it is for this reason that my submission of this complain has been delayed by a while.
Yours sincerely,

Hindu Samhati’s Protests Against Deganga Rock Bengal
Programs to protest against this onslaught and strange silence of administration have been adopted in profusion throughout the state of West Bengal by Hindu Samhati. On 8 September, as a mark of protestation, protest meetings along with road blockades were organized at both Colony and Chanpadali Crossings in Barasat. On the following day of 9 September, a street meeting was held at the Bata crossing in the town of Bongaon. On 12 September a gallant protest march was organized in Calcutta that resulted in burning an effigy of Hazi Nurul Islam, local TMC MP and also the main instigator of the crackdown on Hindus.
On 13 September, workers of Hindu Samhati did block the railway track at both Canning and Thakur Nagar to protest against the carnage. Two separate meetings were organized at Baguihati and Mridha Market in Calcutta on 14 September, focusing on the same issue. However, the vivacity that was perceived in all the said protestations was surpassed by the inimitable vigor observed at Barasat on 18 September. The town remained witness to a huge and unprompted gathering of people that drew the unwarranted interference of the local police and administration.
It is worthwhile to mention, whether it is the carnage at Deganga or the series of programs of protests of Hindu Samhati against the same, each and every incident was marred by the venal, despicable and bestial role of Hussain Mirza, Additional Police Super of the District of 24 Paraganas (North). As per confidential sources, Mirza used to be one of the most brilliant crawlers of CPIM in the erstwhile years. However, with the change of time, he has modified himself into a flatterer of Trinamool Congress straight away.
It is to be noted that on the same day (September 18) 6 workers of Samhati including its vice-president, general secretary were arrested out of no reasons simply. On the word of experts, the unusual delay in their formal releases is occurred due to the wretched role of the same Mirza. Mirza and his co-religionists are trying to take all steps to suppress the protest on Deganga.
Hindu Samhati activists have worked tirelessly to send hundreds of thousands of emails around the globe since the day the carnage started in Deganga. HS has also committed a full website (deganga2010.blogspot.com) on this episode. News Portals worldwide have covered the attacks. Various human rights organizations have also committed to help the persecuted Hindus of Deganga. 50,000 leaflets have also been distributed from Samhati to let people know the real happenings in Deganga.

Deganga Intifada?
Richard Benkin
For three days in September, anti-Hindu violence wracked the Deganga area in North 24 Parganas, only 40 kilometers from the West Bengal capital of Kolkata. Though the violence has subsided, Hindu residents fear renewed attacks, which could have been the attackers’ intention all along. West Bengal BJP member Tathagata Roy visited the area twice since the violence began and noted, “What struck me about the pogrom (not riot, because no Hindu hit a Muslim) is that no Hindu was physically hurt, and no Hindu woman was molested, a regular feature in all Muslim attacks. But destruction of property and threats were both rampant.” From that Roy concludes that “this was a well-thought-out, well-executed pogrom whose objective was to terrorize the Hindus no end without committing any major crime beyond arson. The ultimate intention can only be to cleanse the area of Hindus with a view to totally Islamize the area.” That the matter is now fodder for political bickering instead of effective counter action only furthers the attackers’ objectives.
Bimal Pramanik, Director of the Kolkata-based Centre for Research in Indo-Bangladesh Relations, has noted a steady and deliberate effort to change Hindu-Muslim demographics in West Bengal. Since the emergence of Bangladesh (East Bengal) as an independent nation in 1971, Hindus in that country have fallen from a little less than one in five to between seven and eight percent today. At the same time, the Muslim proportion of West Bengal’s population has risen by 25 percent compared to an almost nine percent decline in the proportion of its Hindu population. Between 1981 and 1991, moreover, Muslim population growth in West Bengal was nearly 35 percent compared to only 25 percent in Bangladesh. “How can there be such a wide difference in growth rates between the two countries?” Pramanik asked South Asia Forum’s Amitabh Tripathi and me in his Kolkata office. His conclusion: “Illegal immigration from across the border.”
The current political infighting is reminiscent of similar wrangling in the United States. America reacted to the September 11, 2001 terror attacks by radical Muslims with a wave of patriotism and unity, bringing with it a collective will to defeat those who attacked America. Over time, however, the initial fervor died down and the same sort of political bickering now taking place in India replaced it. Democrats blamed the attacks on Republican President George Bush; Republicans blamed his Democrat predecessor, President Bill Clinton. That the widely praised “9/11 Commission” found largely equal fault with both did not stop the charges and counter charges. As a result, support for resolutely fighting the Islamists has been plagued by disunity and political jockeying; which also muddies the signal Americans get about their enemies and their intention. Is this happening in India?
Almost 2000 years ago, ancient Israel was at war with its Roman occupiers. With most of the country in enemy hands and Roman legions approaching the gates of the Hebrew capital, Jerusalem; defenders holed up in the Jewish Temple, located on Jerusalem’s Temple Mount. But instead of forming a united front against the enemy, they fell into three factions and spent more time attacking one another than the Romans. When they eventually united, it was too late and Jerusalem fell. The Jewish state was destroyed, not to be re-established until 1948. Is this happening in India?
While the victims of yesterday and today expend their resources fighting one another, their Islamist enemies proceed in a united, strategic, and resolute manner. The Deganga pogrom makes sense when viewed in parallel with another planned, jihadist event with similar goals: the 2000 Palestinian intifada. It also helps to note that Muslims today are given a free pass to express their individual or collective anger however they wish. If Hindus do it, they are Hindu fanatics; Jews, Zionist oppressors; Christians, Islamaphobic. If any of these groups attack Muslims, it is their fault. If Muslims attack them, it is still their fault. Arab terror attacks on Israel murdered over 1000 Israelis in the first few years of this century but were justified as anger over the so-called occupation. The September 11th attacks on the United States were deemed expressions of Muslim anger for which Americans must atone. When Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmedinejad recently accused the United States of being the real 9/11 killers, many at the UN applauded enthusiastically. Finally, virtually every international body and media outlet has determined that the 26/11 terror in Mumbai is insufficient cause to bring anyone to justice. As American author and analyst Michelle Malkin wrote, “The eternal flame of Muslim outrage was lit a long, long time ago.” Woe to any people it burns because the world’s elites will blame them for it. The pattern is tediously familiar.
| Deganga Pogrom | Arab Intifada | |
The Pretext | Hindus stopped Muslim activists from tunneling between the Deganga Mosque and a nearby Hindu Temple. | Then private citizen Ariel Sharon visited Jerusalem’s Temple Mount |
| Background | As the area's Muslim population has grown, they have tried to stop Durga Puja there and claim the land for their Mosque | Although it is the site of Judaism's ancient temple, Muslims claim that the Temple did not exist and that the Mount is a Holy site for Muslims only |
| What happened | Angry Muslims gathered together in the Mosque after Iftar (giving it religious significance) and began attacking Hindus, their Temples, shops and homes. When troops arrived to restore the calm, they moved against defenseless Hindu villages in the interior | Angry Muslims gathered on the temple Mount by Al Asqa Mosque (giving it religious significance) and began attacking Jewish worshippers below. When troops responded to restore calm, they attacked on Israel by Suicide bombings and other terror. |
| Government | While it stopped the violence immediately, it has not made any arrests, defended Hindu religious sentiments or defined the actions or claims as illegitimate. | While it defeated uprising, it allowed the enemy's claims to be given legitimacy. It has not pressed the case for Jewish rights and even released arrested terrorists as 'goodwill gestures' |
| Media | Events have been under reported domestically and blacked out internationally. No media has discussed about rights of the Hindu Victims. | Media took the case of Muslim attackers as a cause celebre and did mentioned the rights of the Jewish victims. |
| Media Result | The Muslim attackers and their instigators see that they can attack Hindus in India without consequences. Their claim to Hindu lands remains active and stronger, and they can press it further. | Arab claims to Jewish land are seen as more legitimate than before the terror, i.e. terror works. Their false claim that the ancient Jewish temples did not exist and that Jews have no title to the temple Mount remains and both are ongoing. Arab demands for a cessation of violence |
The attackers and their backers frequently object that identifying the pogromists as Muslim and the victims as Hindu violates principles of secularism and unfairly smears an entire faith. To the extent that religion should not be an important issue, they are correct. But to the extent that the attackers have made religion important, it needs to be identified. As noted above, there was a deliberate effort to give the Deganga and Palestinian violence a religious overtone. It was also on full view in 2004 when Yassir Arafat personally apologized to the father of a 20 year old murdered in a terror attack as a case of “mistaken identity.” The terrorists were gunning for Jews, and the victim was Christian. In 2006, there were deadly riots worldwide over cartoons that depicted the prophet Mohammed. The rioters were not Hindus, Jews, Christians, Buddhists, Sikhs, or anyone else—but Muslims who called the cartoons blasphemous; that is, Muslims, not Jews or Hindus, have made this a religious fight. More frightening, the rioters were not Al Qaeda; neither were the Deganga pogromists. They were just Muslims. Draw what conclusions you may, but the religious component injected by Muslims is a fact.
The Deganga riots might appear to be a blip on the radar screen of life in India; but they are far more than that. The violence and the decades-long demographic change speak of a deliberate effort to reduce India piece by piece, no less so than Islamist effort to do the same to Israel. If India does not awaken soon, they might find that the international elites have defined Bengal in the same way they have Kashmir.
